Lifestyle Medicine

Lifestyle medicine is a medical specialty that uses therapeutic lifestyle interventions as a primary modality to treat chronic conditions including, but not limited to, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Lifestyle medicine-certified clinicians are trained to apply evidence-based, whole-person, prescriptive lifestyle change to treat and, when used intensively, often reverse such conditions. Applying the six pillars of lifestyle medicine—a whole-food, plant-predominant eating pattern, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connections—also provides effective prevention for these conditions.

Is lifestyle medicine the same thing as a wellness program?

No, lifestyle medicine and wellness programs are not the same thing, although they are related. While both lifestyle medicine and wellness programs promote health and well-being, lifestyle medicine is more narrowly focused on managing and preventing chronic diseases through lifestyle changes, whereas wellness programs encompass a broader range of initiatives aimed at enhancing overall quality of life.

Health and Wellness Coaching

As lifestyle medicine providers, educators, and coaches, we focused on addressing lifestyle factors such as nutrition, physical activity, stress management, sleep, and substance use, aiming to prevent and manage chronic diseases. Our main areas of activity cover a comprehensive set of life-changing activities.

We will comprehensively assess clients’ health status, including their lifestyle habits related to nutrition, physical activity, stress management, sleep, and substance use. They then provide personalized counseling and Education to promote healthy behaviors and address risk factors for chronic diseases.

Based on our assessments, our staff will develop individualized health plans that include specific recommendations for diet, exercise, stress reduction techniques, sleep improvement strategies, and other lifestyle modifications tailored to each patient’s needs and preferences.

Our staff will assist clients in teaching stress reduction techniques such as mindfulness meditation, relaxation exercises, deep breathing techniques, and cognitive-behavioral strategies to help patients manage stress effectively.

We will guide clients on improving sleep hygiene, establishing regular sleep schedules, and addressing sleep disorders such as insomnia or sleep apnea through lifestyle modifications and, when necessary, referral to sleep specialists.

Using motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral approaches, we will help clients overcome barriers to behavior change, enhance motivation, and develop sustainable habits that promote long-term health.

Testimonials

Richard S.

I joined Lifestyle Medicine Options in July 2021. My primary physician had found that I was prediabetic, overweight, with high blood pressure and cholesterol. He wanted to put me on statins. Through his virtual classes, Dr. Baila showed me how to address these health issues by simply eating nutritious foods and exercising. In less than a year, I have dropped 20 pounds and am in the normal range in all categories. I take no medicine. I feel much better and am developing a healthy lifestyle as a natural habit. All the promises of improved health have come true. I highly recommend Lifestyle Medicine Options with coaching by Dr. Radu Baila. The program educates you on improving your health and holds you accountable to ensure you stay on course.

Roxana N.

Lifestyle medicine had a tremendous impact on my life. Dr. Baila is an amazing doctor, coach, and mentor. I have learned to take care of myself and my family better by learning why and how to improve nutrition, how to use mindfulness, how to improve everyday life's choices, and why this is important. Everything is interconnected; one choice affects the other, and by learning to make better lifestyle choices, I feel much healthier, confident, and powerful. I made a series of choices that impacted how I look and feel, lost 25 lb, have the motivation to work out more and make better choices. Thank you, Doctor Radu and Doctor Nicole Baila, for everything! You are both amazing, and I am so happy I know you, and you did this for me!!!

Lifestyle medicine options, excellent education, and ongoing motivation support are making a remarkable difference in my life. I am finally beginning to make measurable changes in my life and health after years of failing to do so. I highly recommend both the CHIP and LIFT programs, as well as the Diabetes Prevention program. Patti S. I highly recommend going through the CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program) for many reasons. Each class provides excellent and not condemning teaching via videos and Dr. Baila Badu, our teacher and leader. The dynamic of the group discussions during the classes is very helpful because the questions and experiences shared are varied. All this in FOUR weeks. I will never go back to an unhealthy lifestyle. Thank you, Lifestyle Medicine Options.

This is the most common-sense approach to health we have ever been involved in. It is a hopeful outlook because many chronic diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes type 2, etc. are really reversible with lifestyle choices that will usually allow the student to be rid of his/her medicine(s) and go on to live life feeling good or even great. You might ask yourself, "Why haven't I heard of a health program like this before? Rather than learning about a topical cream for this problem or another pill for that ailment, a student is instructed in-depth and admonished in many areas of living well, such as meals, exercise, sleep, stress control, depression relief, etc. Dr. Radu Baila is very well educated to teach all of the information disseminated in this Lifestyle Medicine Options class.

G.T.

When I started this program, mentored by Dr. Baila, I thought it would be a way for me to lose weight by following a certain diet. Whaaat!? It is so, so, so much more than that! It was an eye-opener. With a big slap on the forehead. The hint should be obvious: "Lifestyle." Not sure if eating natural "food as grown" can be called a diet. It becomes a way of life. THEN it takes care of all the aspects of our lives: emotional well-being, substance abuse etc. What is certain is that In a short period of time, my body started to not only use weight but become younger, more energy, and a more positive energy and appetite for life. A phenomenal transformation of which I had no idea my body could do. So excited to experience the upcoming modules.

“The root cause of chronic disease is lifestyle”

-THE CLEVELAND CLINIC

OUR THERAPEUTIC LIFESTYLE CHANGES ADDRESS THE 6 AREAS OF LIFESTYLE MEDICINE AND ARE DESIGNED TO REVERSE DISEASES AND GET YOU OFF DRUGS.

“Chronic disease is now responsible for 70 to 80% of all health care expenditures, yet most health professionals treat chronic disease the same way they treat communicable disease: with pills and injections. While this might temporarily relieve acute symptoms, it does not address the underlying cause of the chronic disease.”
